I have Exchange 5.5, but I have the Spamfilter ISP running on a separate server. I looked in the IMC connector, and I didn't find where to change the listening port. In order for Spamfilter to work it has to be the one to get the mail first, then it hands the mail over to the other e-mail app which is listening on a different port number.

You can get Exchange 5.5 to listen on a different port by changing the smtp service port number in the 'services' file. It would then be possible to use SpamFilter to listen on port 25 and still forward mail to Exchange's Internet Mail Service listening on a different port.

To change the SMTP port on your mail server:

If you are using Exchange server:

  1. On the Exchange server machine, open the file"../system32/drivers/etc/services", located in your Windows NT directory, with notepad.
  2. Change the following line "smtp 25/tcp mail" to "smtp 26/tcp mail". This means you are changing the SMTP port of Exchange from 25 to 26.
  3. Re-start the machine. Now configured SpamFilterISP to receive mail on SMTP port 25 & then to reroute it to your Exchange server on port 26.
