I am A novie at this stuff as well and I can hoestly say that this software is easy to install and pretty well works out of the box.  I would recommand running it on another computer (other than your exchange server so that in the worst case you can just reroute email back to exchange server.  Heres what you need to do.  (this takes like 5 mins)

Install spam filter server on a workstation (mine is on a P3 W2K workstation).  In the configuration window of spam filter point it to your exchange server.  at this point nothing has happened.  now just logon to your firewall and point port 25 to the spamfilter workstion.  Email will immediately start flowing through to it and from it to the exchange server.  Note that this is a simplistic instruction guide and you should refer to logstats readme's for detailed instructions.

To avoid messing with the firewall i would suggest changing the mail servers' IP to another free internal IP and give the spamfilter box the original mail servers' IP, and make it forward the mail to the echange servers new IP. If anything goes wrong with the SF box, simply return to previous settings and everything will work as before.

Good Point Marco, provided the IP address is not used for any other services ie Web site, TS etc.
