Here is a nslookup for an IP address:

Name: 39.48.236.66.dnsbl.njabl.org Address: 127.0.0.4

nslookup reported this IP address correctly as a source for spam: .4, however spamfilter doesn't block this IP address. You can add dnsbl.njabl.org to your mars server list and try it.

tk,

Are you using the line:

dnsbl.njabl.org, true

in your list ?

Abel.

Yes, of course.

Here is another example: 205.235.69.168

Doing a manual (Check if IP in ORBS) returns this IP address as not black listed. Whereas bl.spamcop.net reports:

205.235.69.168 listed in bl.spamcop.net. ( 127.0.0.2 )

Here is a list of my maps servers:

bl.spamcop.net, true sbl.spamhaus.org, true relays.osirusoft.com, true spam.dnsrbl.net, true dnsbl.njabl.org, true proxies.relays.monkeys.com, true dnsbl.sorbs.net,true

Tk,

We tried doing a manual check from SpamFilter's "Check if IP in ORBS", and it correctly reported that it is indeed blacklisted by SpamCop's bl.spamcop.net.

In the list of maps server you pasted there is an extra "e" in the true next to spamcop. Is that a type in the posting or in the SpamFilter's list? If it's like that in SpamFilter it will not work...

Here's the list you pasted:

bl.spamcop.net, true e sbl.spamhaus.org, true relays.osirusoft.com, true spam.dnsrbl.net, true dnsbl.njabl.org, true proxies.relays.monkeys.com, true dnsbl.sorbs.net,true

And here's ours for a comparison:

bl.spamcop.net, true
sbl.spamhaus.org, true
relays.osirusoft.com, true
spam.dnsrbl.net, true
dnsbl.njabl.org, true

TK:  I've had the same problems.  You probably made a configuration change AFTER the service was started.  We always have to reboot our server and then changes to the configuration work fine.   This appears to hold true for most any configuration change.

Thanks. I did'nt actually have to reboot just restarted the service and now the black list seems to be working OK. It was odd some IPs even before the restart would appear correctly but some would not.

Robert, There were no typos in the list, it had to do with restarting the service. Is this a bug or a requirement?

We started with version v1.1.2.122  then upgraded to v1.1.2.124 and are running on W2K Server with SP3 and latest hotfixes.  What version are you running and on what platform?  I can't restart the service.

Thanks, Matt

We're running on a NT Server 4.0 SP6. We were trying the .143 beta version but I have never had trouble with restarting the service even on earlier versions.

SpamFilter is designed so that you never have to restart the service to make any changes active. So far you and Matt are the only ones experiencing this problem. I'd definetly call it a bug, and are working with Matt to try to find out what the problem is.

If you would like us to access your server to troubleshoot it, please let us know by emailing mailto:support@logsat.com" CLASS="ASPForums" TITLE="WARNING: URL created by poster. - support@logsat.com

FYI, in the new beta .162 we made major improvements in ensuring the service shuts down properly. It looks much more stable than in the current official retail release.
