Roberto,

I posted to the other thread concerning the whitelist and our users complaining that previously whitelisted addresses were being blocked (did not mean to hijack the other thread but did not get a response)...

In researching this issue, we found cases in which inbound emails directed to multiple recipients with some recipients having whitelisted the sender's address going to the quarantine for ALL recipients AND delivering the email to those with the whitelist entry.

This is confusing because the recipient receives the whitelist copy but then finds a copy of the same message in the quarantine.  The sender receives a rejection notice and everyone gets pissy....and calls me....!!!

We just rolled out 704 but this action does not appear to be by design - but I could be mistaken....

????

Roy

Roy,

These conditions are rather complex to handle, as there are multiple things going on... Emails are being split, sent to some but not to others, the remote server needs to receive certain codes but not others...

This is the current behavior in SpamFilter if a spam email arrives, where certain recipients are whitelisted, while others are not.

  • SpamFilter will deliver the email to the whitelisted recipients
  • The email will be placed in the quarantine database, and will be linked to all recipients, both whitelisted and not. This will indeed mean that the whitelisted recipients will receive the email in their mailboxes, but will also have a copy in the quarantine. We may optimize this in the future.
  • The remote server will receive an error message at the end of the SMTP transaction, and the message will contain a list of addresses indicating the ones that did *not* receive the email. It will look something like "--- The email was not delivered to the following addresses: user@domain1.com, user@domain2.com, user@domain3.com... etc". The list will not contain the addresses for which the email was delivered successfully.
