I've recently turned up a fresh NT2k server with SQL2000 for the quarentined emails.

The first instance of SF via the installer works perfectly.

Working with Roberto i did the following to create the additional instances needed:

- copied files to a new directory
- used the instsrv command to create the service instance, each with a different name
- added the necessary line in the registry.

As it is now  SF is working for all instances.  However, I can only get the gui for the main one.  When I click on the exe, from the appropriate folder, I get a can't bind error, and it's already in use.  Afterwards, I then can see the settings which are loading from the text files, and none of the real time activity (logs, quarentine, stats, etc)

Suggestions would be most appreciated.

Rich,

Go to the service property page, select the "Log On" tab and check the box "Allow service to interact with desktop".  Restart the service and it should now show up as a second gui.

Dan,

Thanks, I thought the same.  Made the change, rebooted, and still the same problem.

shoot me your remail address to my hotmail account. From there I will give you my real address so I can compare your settings with mine.  I run 8 instances on the same server and have had no issues so I know it can be made to work.

I have changed the "a"'s in the address to X's to prevent spiders from automatically getting even my "trash" account.

interaction with desktop is on the console only,

you cannot have a console connection with w2k,(rdp sessions only)

however this is posible on windows 2003,

if you connect with mstsc /console.

otherwise you need to connect with vnc or other console capable tool.

i run 2 instances on a dual p-3, and set each spamfilter on a single cpu,

and their priority gets controlled by proces explorer from sysinternals.

works great for me.(with 1 database of course)

Rich,

From the error you mention it seems that one or more of your instances are trying to listen on the same IP/port combination. You need to ensure that every instance listens on its own IP or port. Please check all your SpamFilter.INI files and look for the lines

ListenIP=
ListenPort=

They must all be different (meaning you can't have two instances using the same combination of IP and port), and you can't have a blank IP (unless you use a different port for each of your instances)
