Client is testing SF and needs to also allow about 6 desktops on the same LAN send out email via the Exchange server. Is there a way to allow certain IP addresses on the same LAN to relay?  Currently, SF is nicely not allowing relay at all.

Sure. You can either place the subnet in the "Excluded Domains / IPs" whitelist, or you can implement SMTP authentication (we support Active Directory, LDAP, and Unix-style password files). Authenticated senders are whitelisted and can thus use SpamFilter to relay emails.
