I keep getting duplicate mail from one person. It is only a specific email that had an attachment. I keep getting it over and over every hour. I checked our logs and it seems like it happens when the spam filter does a blacklist cache.

Here is two different occasions of if happening.

Achirco,

If SpamFilter is not able to deliver an email to your destination SMTP server, it is placed in a re-delivery queue.

SpamFilter attempts to re-deliver all emails in the delivery queue every 60 minutes, which is what appears to occur here (this is unrelated to the blacklist cache purge, as the latter occurs every few minutes).

If there's a delivery error, SpamFilter will log the cause. if you look at the entry:

03/25/08 05:48:20:350 -- (1108) Sending email from DaveW@capcom.com to mhochheiser@ESRB.ORG

do a search in your text editor, starting from that line, for the string containing the thread ID related to that message (1108). The next line you find will contain the error that SpamFilter encountered while delivering the email. Please note that sometimes there will be a "read timeout" error about 60 seconds after the initial delivery attempt. SpamFilter has a built-in default timeout of 60 seconds when delivering emails. If it does not receive any responses from the destination SMTP server within 60 seconds, the email is re-placed in the queue for later delivery. This timeout can be increased by modifying this parameter in the SpamFilter.ini file:

;Timeout when delivering emails to the destination SMTP server (in seconds)
ReadTimeoutOutgoing=60

Update. Email was 4MB in size, and was timing out as the dest SMTP server was taking over 60 seconds to process it. Increasing the ReadTimeoutOutgoing solved the issue.
