OK, I found a weird issue with a client. They are a politician and were getting bounces from senders. Get this the email error:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

mailto:Bradley@*****.com - Bradley@*****.com on 7/24/2008 1:47 PM

You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance, contact your system administrator.

< http://dorado.house.gov/ - dorado.house.gov #5.7.1 SMTP; 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for mailto:Bradley@*****.com - Bradley@*****.com >

This recipient has a "authorized to" entry. I found nothing in the spamfilter log to shed any light on the error. But if I go to dnsreport.com and look up "house.gov" it shows NO MX records. Also dorado.house.gove has no NS records?

I have turned off my MX record test for the time being. I thought I would post this to see if anyone else has experienced this issue. Also how do they get mail at house.gove without MX records? Is is magic?

Without seing the entire message and knowing the sender/recipient, the above errors can be a bit confusing as we can't tell where they're being received (are they received by your customer when they send out emails, or are they the error messages external people are receiving when they attempt to email your customer).

In either case, the error:
http://dorado.house.gov/ - #5.7.1 SMTP; 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for mailto:Bradley@*****.com - >
most likely means that the server at dorado.house.gov is not allowing the delivery of emails to bradley@.....com.

Please note that "dorado.house.gov" can be a made-up name (even though it would not be wise to have a fake/non-existant name), as it simply appears in an error message, and the domain is not necessarily used to receive emails.

If by any chance this email was sent by SpamFilter (which would *not* appear to be the case as it would be formatted differently however), then this would mean that when SpamFilter forwarded the email to your destination SMTP server, the latter rejected it with the error "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for mailto:Bradley@*****.com - ".
