When i go into the domains and try to add a new domain and forward its emails to an ip address i keep getting
--------extract from log------------------
03/28/09 09:30:06:381 -- (5928) Socket Error # 10060 -- Connection timed out. - forwarding to:061.009.229.079 - will try forwarding to 61.9.229.79
--------------------------------------------

I have found the issue. I have removed the comments below as they are no longer relevant.

Andrew,

We just tried to telnet to 61.9.229.79 on port 25, but are getting a "connection refused" error. The same applies when we try with http://www.zoneedit.com/smtp.html?server=61.9.229.79:

ERROR: Error while reading data from host 61.9.229.79:25, Connection refused

The key issue here is that you're unable to connect via command-line "telnet 61.9.229.79 25" from the server running SpamFilter itself. Unless you're able to connect, SpamFilter will fail to obtain a connection as well.

That you will because i have shifted it to port 24, once i shifted it i could telnet to it, but while it was on port 25 i couldnt.
As an example.
try telnet https://203.122.246.194 - 203.122.246.194  25     It will fail
yet i can use http://www.zoneedit.com/smtp.html?server=203.122.246.194&fromemail=andrew@mydomain.com.au&toemail=administrator@thisdomain.com.au&smtptest=Begin+Test - http://www.zoneedit.com/smtp.html?server=203.122.246.194&fromemail=andrew@mydomain.com.au&toemail=administrator@thisdomain.com.au&smtptest=Begin+Test

which will quite happily connect to it (although you will get an unable to relay message) trust me if i put in a valid receiver on the server at that exchange then it will deliver fine. Yet if i try to tell spamfilter to deliver to that IP on port 25 it will fail.
Any idea's?

If, from the server running SpamFilter, you issue the MSDOS command:

telnet 203.122.246.194 25

and are unable to connect, that indicates that access to port 2 on 203.122.246.194 is simply not available from that server. In this case, SpamFilter will not be able to connect either.

Depending on how your network/firewall is configured, it is very possible that access to port 25 is available from the internet but not from within your network. If you're unable to telnet on port 25 from the server itself, you will need to troubleshoot connectivity to see if there are any NAT/firewall/translation issues that are preventing the connection. Until telnet access to port 25 is restored, unfortunately SpamFilter will not be able to forward emails either.

If I misunderstood, and you *are* able to connect via telnet to port 25 on 203.122.246.194, then I apologize as we obviously misunderstood the issue. In this case, could you please re-verify which IP addresses are involved (mail server/SpamFilter server) and which ports?
