Hi there, I'm running SpamFilter 2.5.1.441 on an NT4 box. I've got the latest MDAC (2.8) and am using an MS Access DB. My problem is my database somehow gets corrupted and the refresh, deliver and delete buttons on the Quarantine page are grayed out. I can't manage my qurantined emails. I know i can get into the Access DB manually and mark emails to either be deleted or delivered but this is too inconvenient for my clients. Any ideas anyone??? Cheers, Jayz

Just a note...
with a strange combination of click on columns, buttons comes active but clicking them (deliver or delete) Spam Filter freeze and you've to kill the process... A solution would be appreciated....

Jayz, Can you please expand on "my database somehow gets corrupted"? Do you think it's corrupted because MS Access says so when opening it? Or you think it's corrupted because SpamFilter's buttons are grayed out? If it's the second case, can you please try to reinstall the latest MDAC? Even if you think you have the latest one, some applications will overwrite the DLLs with older versions, so if you installed anything since upgrading MDAC there's a high probability that this may have happened. |

Hi, I thought it was corrupted because the buttons are greyed out. I've reinstalled the MDAC and it has made no difference. I've also installed it on a Win2k3 SBS box and the problem reoccurs (works fine for a day then the buttons are greyed out). I'm going to try and use SQL DB to see if that fixes the problem cheers, Jayz |

I've resolved my problem downgrading SpamFilter to 2.1.2.395. Without change anything on the db (mdb) everything works well.

I'm having the same issue...when I click the 'Refresh' button on the Quarantine screen, my grid does some funky things (all rows shrink up and you can't see them). I've also experienced the buttons greying out. I'm running 2.5.1.448 now, but if I downgrade to 2.1.2.406, everything works like a charm. Something must have changed from the 2.1 to the 2.5 versions, maybe the Quarantine grid control was upgraded or something? I'm also running an NT4 server Thanks, Greg |

Roberto, I'm not sure if this helps figure out the issue, but here's a line from my logfile that appeared, which may have something to do with the quarantine grid issue. When I click the Refresh List button, the Refresh List, Delete Selected and Deliver Selected buttons are disabled/greyed out, and the only button that is enabled is the Hide List button. 05/04/05 17:02:22:281 -- (683) Exception occurred during TUpdateListViewQuarantineThread: Object is no longer valid Thanks, Greg |

We've been trying to replicate the symptoms in our lab for a few days
now, but so far have not been able to see any problem on any version of
Windows (NT, 2000, 2003).
If we can have from anyone a zipped copy of their Access database, along with the SpamFilter.ini file, that may be of some help. |

I'm having the same trouble, and i seriously suspect there is some programming bug. I tried reinstalling spamfilter 2.5.1.441, but the problem persists I'm running it on an XP box, and am using a MsAccess db. funny thing is: when i press 'hide list', all buttons reappear, and after pressing 'refresh list' all buttons except 'hide list' are grayed out. It seems the button functions are reversed for refresh/hide Since the reinstall didnt help, maybe some registry/ini entry is screwy?

I'm evaluating this software since the beginning of this week, untill yesterday everything worked like a charm. Now i am faced with the problem of the grayed out buttons, no option to manually push the 'false negatives' to the end user's mailbox, and some important mails stuck in the database... Some people stated that the older versions worked ok, without having to change the database. could anyone of you post me link to a download location for one of the older versions please?

Everyone,
We still have not received a single emails to our request above: ======================= If we can have from anyone a zipped copy of their Access database, along with the SpamFilter.ini file, that may be of some help. ======================= Furthermore, so far the only DB platform mentioned in this thread is MS Access. Is anyone experiencing these issues with other databases, or is it only occurring with Access? Without being able to reproduce the problem, and without a copy of the database, we won't be able to pinpoint the issue. There is only one thing for certain right now, and that is that it's not a registry problem. SpamFilter is one of the few applications still out there that does not and will not (unless at gunpoint) use the registry for anything else other than adding an entry for the add/remove programs in the control panel.... |

..ha! but we don't do that by default! You created that entry when you clicked on "create service" :-)
I've tried to create a Windows service without adding it to the services registry keys... but failed miserably. |

Did anything come of this?
Do you guys (with the issue) run the web interface. I found all sorts of wierd stuff happened when users where using the web interface the same time I was using the GUI. It most certainly was down to the database causing problems, once I change to something that did proper row locking then these things cleared up. (MYSQL if you wanted to know). If you like the MS stuff and have under 25 users then you could use MSDE. http://www.microsoft.com/sql/msde/default.asp |

No, we don't use the web interface. The problem occours, i guess, after an upgrade with a large db (access db).
As i said before, we solved this issue downgrading SpamFilter without changing anything (mdb & .ini). Cheers...

We were running on an Access Database also, and it seems that it would
do weird things as the database become larger. This was running
on a slower machine, as a test box, and after putting SpamFilter on a
beefier machine with a MySQL database, things improved
considerably.
I remember seeing the same scrunched together lines at one point, and I believe the greyed out buttons after clicking refresh but this was with upwards of 60,000 to 80,000 things in the access database quarantine... Dave |

Roberto, i have reinstalled spamfilter on an old NT 4 box, started out fresh with the supplied spamfilter.mdb and to my surprise, after roughly 2 days of working fine, the grayed out button 'feature' reappears. I'm using build 441, since im trying to build a 'case' for purchasing it. With this bug screwing up normal operation i cannot do so. Since i can not forward the false negatives any more, i will have to check the 'tag and forward' checkbox again. The DB has now roughly 60 entries (yeah, a small company, not some big ISP :) ) sending the db to postmaster since i dont have your mail addy.

Marco,
Our email is on the home page - support@logsat.com So far we've not been able to duplicate this, but only one user has provided us with the database (we also need the SpamFilter.ini file). |

We were finally able to reproduce the problem thanks to Marco's files.
It is caused by the type of ODBC driver used for the connection. For MS Access, we recommend using the "Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider" rather than the OLE DB Provider for ODBC". Under the "Settings - Quarantine DB" tab, clicking on the "..." ellipse button for the Connection String, the DB connection is specified with the second "Use Connection String" line. In the "Data Link Properties" dialog box that follows, the driver used to connect to the SpamFilter.mdb Access database was "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers". With the OLE DB for ODBC we were able to verify that the quarantine buttons did not work as expected. The recommended way to connect to a database (Access or any other kind) is thru the use of .UDL files. Sample UDL files for the various database are in the SpamFilter\database folder. For MS Access, we recommend using the "Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLD DB Provider" rather than the OLE DB Provider for ODBC". This driver has limited functionality and is not recommended. If JET provider is selected, the quarantine buttons work as they should. |

That worked, thanks a lot. Thumbs up for logsat team, seeing a software developer cooperate with endusers this intensively is a rare thing nowadays. hats off. |
