I was thinking. It would be nice if blacklists came sooner. I was looking through blocked mail. 95% of the mail in the quar is blocked by IP.So I had ran a script for awhile to delete all email blocked by it's IP. Worked good, except I found that people sending legit from their home computers were getting deleted etc.So now I'm back to all this mail in my quar. But because so much of it is virus' but blocked by the IP I can't delete the blocked by IP messages with an attachment out of the quar.So I was thinking, wow, how much easier things would be if blocking by IP was put behind even just the blacklist attachment filter! Or even last for that matter because it catches the most spam, this way we can easily run scripts against the spam and delete obvious spam alot easier.

Kevin, Here's what you need to do. In your case run all inbound email through an anti virus SMTP service like WebShield by McAfee first. Then WebShield relays to SpamFilter minus the viruses. Shameless self promotion => You can get a five node perpetual license pak for like $375. You only need one node per server but you have to buy minimum five for the server products. And you get butt kickin' file system protection too. I sell it if you're interested. pcmatt # idp.net. -Matt R |

Well...I might try that. If you can explain to me how the dns black lists would still work.

I should stop posting late at night when my brain activity is minimal. Sorry about the lame suggestion. I don't use the quarantine so I do anti virus filtering after SpamFilter.

Kevin, Now that I've had sleep and coffee.. I see what you are after. You want a way to set the precedence for the various blocking methods. This is something that I believe is on Roberto's long term to do list. I think what he is after is the optimum where we can set the precendence order ourselves in the software. Some checking orders may not be selectible, like Options and white lists, if configured need to be applied first regardless. Then we can set the order and precedence of the rest. This is what you are after, right? If so, it's a matter of time. It is a complex thing to code because some of us don't use quarantine at all and some do. So to code the logic that must wrap around all other logic for all of this will take some time. Then to test and debug it will be just like a complete new software applicaiton. I thought I had seen an older post regarding this. -Matt R. |
