I can't seem to figure out what I've missed in the instructions: There are messages in the quarantine which I would like to delete and some I would like to forward along but all three buttons at the top are greyed out. I don't understand why. I've tried clicking on a message, the old version would let you select one or many and do whatever, but here I can't seem to "select" a message. TIA ashley |

Ashley, Can you please provide us with some additional info: what version of SpamFilter you are using Please note that if you selected MS Access, you will need to use MDAC 2.7 (Microsoft Data Components), and use the UDL file provided instead of an ODBC driver, as the ODBC driver has some bugs that won't allow it to work. Hi Roberto, I have the same problem with version .174. I had chosen MS Access and had used the .udf you provided (Connection String: FILE NAME=C:\Program Files\SpamFilter\Database\SpamFilterAccess.udl). As I will use Access to go through all mail I still would like to be able to select e-mails in Quarantine, flag them as selected and then delete them. The nice part on the new quarantine screen is that with all the fields provided you see immediately which ones can be deleted right away. |

Gerd, Are you using MDAC 2.7 or later? Earlier version do not have the necessary features to work with Access as are needed. If so, can you please provide with a bit of more info? For ex., are the emails being quarantined without problems (you are able to see them in the tblQuarantine table by opening the database with MS Access) and the problem is just that the 3 buttons are grayed out? Hi Roberto, how do I find out what MDAC version I use? I can access the quarantine database with MS Access just fine, see all the records and also am able to delete quarantined records. And deleting the Access records correctly updates the Quarantine screen in SpamFilter. So, my problem is that buttons "Refresh List", "Deliver Selected", and "Delete Selected" are grayed out. I am certain that for the first few days after installing patch 174 I was able to "Refresh List" successfully. However, I can't tell at what point it stopped working. The only thing I did on that server is to update it with some Windows 2000 patches.

Hi Roberto, I was wrong telling you that the Quarantine screen was updated correctly, it was not. I only see 92 records on the Quarantine screen where I have several hundreds in the Access database. Also, the records I deleted in Access are still on the Quarantine screen. |

One more information. I just loaded the 178 patch. The very first time I went into Quarantine I was able to click on the "Refresh List", which updated the screen and also did no longer show the records I had deleted in the Access database. However, after the screen was refreshed the same buttons got grayed out again. |

You can use the Component Checker Version 2.7 from http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/dataaccess.asp. Usually with Access the buttons remain grayed out when there are less than 50-100 items in the quarantine. The two things below are what usually fixes this. If using Access, make sure you use the inlcuded UDL file to specify the connection, and not ODBC since there's a bug with IDBC that will case the refresh not to work properly. Also make sure you are running at least MDAC 2.7 if using Access. Roberto Franceschetti |

SpamFilter will not show in the quarantine list records that are already marked for deleteion (they have the Expire field set to true). The records can exist in the database, but they won't show up in SpamFilter. Every 60 minutes a timer kicks in that will delete expired items from the database. Roberto Franceschetti |

Hi Roberto, installing MDAC on the SpamFilter server did the trick. I now have all the buttons available and all of them function just fine. Thanks for your help. |
