I am running NT 4.0 SP6a, Exchange 5.5 SP4, IIS, and SQL Server 7.0 w/ latest SP. I just installed MDAC 2.8 (I think it went ok, but I can't see the installation in the Control Panel Add/Remove), but I am still seeing a memory leak. RAM is ok, but CPU is running in the 70s and 80s as opposed to when I shut it off, it runs at 5-10%.
Can someone help? |

Ben, Are you using large keyword lists or large local blacklists? By large we mean over 50-100 entries? Roberto F. |

No, using just a standard setup that is taking the blacklist servers and applying their settings. My setup is real thin... Is there a newer build that I could try? I like what this does, but it pins my CPU...

Roberto, is there an upper limit to the number of entries in lists that will hinder performance?

Alan, There is no upper limit. The more entries there are, the more CPU power is required for each incoming messages. We have seen servers were some of the lists were of 1-2 MB in size, but the combination of server processor/incoming traffic was such that performance was acceptable. Roberto F. |

Ben, When you say that the CPU is running high, can you please let us know which process is taking up most of it? Is it SpamFilterSvc or some other process? You are running quite a bit of applications on the same server, is the server scaled to do so? How much incoming email traffic per hour are you having? What kind of processor(s) (MHz) is on the server, and how much RAM does it have? Roberto F. |

CPu is running between 70 and 90, and the primary culprit is SpamFilterSvc. When its not running (Spam Filter) the CPU jumps back down to 5-10%. It is a dual P3 550mhz. 2 GB RAM, Runs Exchange 5.5, SQL 7. It hums when Spam Filter is not running, when it is running, it spikes. Its the only app that makes it spike.

What's your email traffic in emails/hour or emails/day? Roberto |
