How can I configure SpamFilter so that spammers do not receive replies that their mail was blocked??? I am finding that the level of spam coming at us is increasing and I assume it is because the spammer thinks they found a heartbeat. |

Spammers are never sent an email back notifying them that the email was rejected. When SpamFilter rejects an email, it outputs an error message to the remote server while they are sending the SMTP commands to send the email, and then disconnects them. One thing you can try to reduce traffic is take a look at is the "Error Handler Email" config under Settings - Customized Items. Ensure that you have a null return address in there, something like: "System Administrator" <>

Even though SpamFilter does not send an sort of reply indicating email was rejected, wouldn't it cause the mail server to generate an error message to the original sender to that effect anyway?

Yes, but it's not your smtp server that sends the notice, it's the remote smtp server that takes care of sending the error message to their user. Which is a good thing... The spammer's server does twice the work, doubling its used resources and bandwidth!
