I am pissed that I had to register at this forum just to be able to try to contact someone at LogSat to see WHY they are IMPROPERLY blocking mail from our ISP, NuVox.
This is RIDICULOUS. |

The IP of your provider's mail server is *currently* sending large amount of spam and/or infected emails. The IP will thus be blacklisted in the SFBD database until the malicious activity stops. You should direct your anger towards your ISP... FYI - you did not *have* to register on the forum. A reply to your email has *already* been sent, prior to us seing the forum post. As a side-note, registration to the forum was required as spammers, possibly the same ones exploiting NuVox, were abusing this forum when registration was not required. |

PROVE IT. Just saying it doesn't make it so. In fact, they have their own anti-spam gateway in place that is so effective that I cannot even forward the occasional spam that slips through our out-sourced anti-spam service to them (the outsourced spam reporting email address), because it gets blocked by NuVox's anti-spam gateway.
If it turns out you are correct, then I will - but I strongly doubt that you are...
I wasn't complaining about having to register to use the forums - I was complaining that NO ONE ANSWERED YOUR PHONE OR RETURNED MY CALLS, leaving me no OPTION but to use your forums. I am pissed because too many people are being too aggressive in their war on spam. I hate spam too, but please, use the ESTABLISHED RBL lists, that have ESTABLISHED rules and guidelines for determining TRUE spam sources. Don't try to reinvent the wheel by creating your own. You don't block an ENTIRE TELECOM just because one of their customers' computers might get infected with something. That is TOTALLY MORONIC. Edited by tanstaafl |

We don't need to prove anything. If your ISP wants to be delisted, then they will need to follow the directions presented in the bounce message they received. If you/they don't believe us, the IP will simply stay in the SFDB along with the 200,000 + IPs in the database right now. You received an email response less than an hour you left a voice mail. This was even after considering the rude manners in the 2nd voice mail you left. And yes, if the one customer they have is sending hundreds of thousands of emails, then absolutely, this will get them blacklisted. |

In SpamFilter's defense I find SFDB to be the most useful method of combating spam that I have experianced. In addition I have found Roberto/LogSat's support to be incredible. This seems like tanstaafl has a case of "shoot first ask questions later", I and my customers are thankful that LogSat has stepped up to the plate with SFDB, I certainly don't see it as re-inventing the wheel but rather as innovation. |

Yes, you do. The very least you can do is provide an example of the 'spam' that you claim is being sent out by our very large telecom/ISP. That said, regardless of what you claim, it is INAPPROPRIATE to block an entire ISP based on a few spam you get from one of their clients. I would agree, if there were, in fact a large volume of spam coming from then constantly, but that is simply not the case.
Thats precisely the point. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION IN YOUR BOUNCE MESSAGE TO DETERMINE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT YOU HAVE BLOCKED THEM. They have already analyzed their network, and they are comfortable that your claim is simply WRONG.
Thats fine - and I'll simply tell our Clients that this 'service' they are using is the reason that they cannot receive email from us, and that they should switch services immediately to a more reliable one that doesn't swat mosquitos with a sledge hammer.
When you are blocking us from being able to send email, provide a phone number on your website that NO ONE EVER ANSWERS, then yes, I get pissed. I HATE companies that do not allow direct, voice communication with anyone on the outside. WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF? You're probably starting to get a lot of calls from people just like me complaining about the very poor implementation of your NEW 'SFDB'.

I'm not surprised - and I'm sure you'll feel that way right up to the point that people you WANT to comunicate with are being blocked by this overly aggressive, and possibly misconfigured, implementation. |

Pissed or not, that simply is no way to state your grief in here, if you say logsat is lying then let me tell you this: you declare all logsat users lyers, since they collectively established this one ip to be a spam-source. Instead of screaming your ass off in here like a small child that isnt granted a cookie, better talk to the 'receiving' end of your mail bounces.. it seems THEY are using logsat SFI (i imagine to full satisfaction) and they are adhering to the listed IP in sfdb. Perhaps they set their filter a bit too aggressive. Bottom line: logsat didnt declare this IP a spammer... all logsat users did.. each and every user can then decide to follow up on the listing or not.

First of all let me preface the fact that NuVox has not been sending spam since you started complaining to them, so their IP has already been automatically removed from the SFDB. Now...
We do, to the owner of the server, not to the end user.
How can you be so sure as you're not a NuVox administrator but simply one of their customers....?
If you'd know a bit more about blacklists and spam, you'd know that the message is pretty standard, and that's how it's supposed to be as users reading them are non-technical. As the website you're directed to states, you're to forward the information to your ISP, NuVox in this case, and let *them* take care of the problem. You're one of their customers, and there will not be a single thing you can do in having/helping them delist their servers. You're not the only customer they have being affected, ALL their customers were being blocked. The technical informaiton they need to delist is provided to *them*, not to you.
The malicious activity has stopped, so they have been delisted, which is probably why they're comfortable now.
Too bad. Get with life, this is the electronic era, and how we do business.
Actually not, the complaints are very minor, as the SFDB is doing its job perfectly. In your case, NuVox was blocked for a few hours while spam was being sent out of their network. When it stopped, it was automatically delisted. You will have a hard time finding a blacklist provider with this quick response time in both the listing and the delisting automated processes.
You obviously have no clue in how the SFDB database is populated with spam reports from hundreds of companies around the world. I would really suggest you stop making a fool out of yourself by asking us to prove what we say and then come out with comments like these... also without proof. Edited by LogSat |

I'm still trying to figure out how he is attacking logsat, one question that went un answered is whether or not this guy actually read the documentation to understand how the database works lol. Nope, the post wasn't a fraud...
And yes, the software works - if you can call blocking an entire ISP just because one IP address happens to be spewing spam. Kind of like swatting a gnat with a 20lb sledgehammer. The fact is, it is the height of laziness to block an entire ISP, when blocking just the offending IP('s) would suffice. |

We did not block an entire ISP. We blocked the IP that was sending out spam.
Before you complain, you should know that the IP address of the spammer itself is irrelevant. Blocking that address is completely useless, as he was bouncing off his spam off Nuvox's mail server. It is Nuvox that is sending his spam to the world, not the spammer's IP. So we did exactly what is right, we blocked the one single IP address that was sending spam, and we automatically unblocked it when the spam stopped. ISP's administrators need to have safehuards in place to prevent spammers from abusing their system. Nuvox most likely has some, but that one day the spammer found a way around them. It is up to the ISP to ensure this doesn't happen, and (good) administrators are aware that if they're not careful, and let their servers being abused, they will get blacklisted. |

This is why I don't understand why he's complaining. Someone used his isp's smtp server to send spam. The spam hit many of our servers and eventually through a group effort was blocked by the sfdb. So why are you upset exactly? Someone used your isp's mail server to send spam. So we blocked the server thta was sending spam to our servers. It wouldn't be up to us to block the actual spammers ip, that is to far downstream for us to even deal with so why are you at Logsat about this? The software worked exactly as it was supposed to. Why are you not yelling at your isp for allowing spam to make it through their servers? If anything the fact that logsat's servers worked as they should, helped you identify the problem for your isp and stop it. You need to figure out where to direct your anger because right now its going to the wrong place. |

It would appear that you are angry that an email (or more) that you sent to one or more of you're clients has bounced. If this is the case, why don't you ask them to whitelist your email address, so that if your ISP's mail servers ever get compromised again, it won't affect you??? In fact, you could ask all of your clients to whitelist your email address, that way any other software that they are using won't block you either...(I am assuming that you are a legitimate business and not a spammer pissed that your spammy emails are getting blocked !!! Forgive me for being suspicious, but we get lots of spammers on this forum trying to circumvent our filters....they are quite easy to spot...they complain about emails getting blocked.... )

Good morning Logsat. Thank you for making your product trial as open as you did. I have a couple of questions now that I have had a chance to use it. I have been reading the forum and these questions may be answered in some form elsewhere I just want to narrow down the answers. * When purchasing online is it instant access to the download for the full version (licensed)? * Will I loose all the configurations that I have set up so far? * Will I need to uninstall the previous version before installing licensed version? * I am running this on server 2003. In order to send mail via the webpage for the quaranteen area what will be needed? When reading your forum I think it is only cdonts. I have registered this DLL will that be all I need? Currently in the unlicensed webpage login I can not get it to send email to a new user who wants to register to view his/her spam. This does not appear to be a license issue for the login process so I wanted to clear this up. At this point I was not attempting to have it send the quaranteen spam just a login pw. Your product has been a welcome addition in the fight against spam.

Yes, absolutely. As soon as the credit card is approved you'll have access to the download area.
Absolutely not. If you use the installer, it will simply overwrite the updated program files. You can also upgrade manually if you wish to have more control. We make things as simple as possible, so all the files used by SpamFilter are in SpamFilter's directory tree, not scattered all over the hard drive. To upgrade you simply need to stop SpamFilter, overwrite the program files with the ones in the zipped archive, and restart SpamFilter. We usually also make available on the website smaller distributables containing the binaries only, to make the upgrade easier.
No, you can simply use the above procedure to replace the executables.
Actually all you need is the licensed version of SpamFilter. The web interface does not need/use cdonts, it is actually SpamFilter itself that sends the emails created by the web interface. Please note that this feature in the web interface is disabled in the free version. |
