We currently have our filter set to accept 500 connections at a time (which I believe is the default). On occasion, simultaneous connections have reached this number and when they do, the spam filter hangs.
I either have to reboot the server or restart the service.
What are the ramifications for increasing this number and is there a recommended way for calculating the number of smtp connections we should be permitting at a single time.
Also, is there a way to disconnect all these conections without restarting the services or bouncing th server?

saracen,
Can you please let us know what build of SpamFilter you are using? We've discovered internally a possible issue with the GUI appearing to freeze when there is a large number of connections, and the GUI is viewed via Remote Desktop. If the screen is not able to be refreshed fast enough, the number of threads used by SpamFilter increases abnormally, potentially causing freezes. A patch is actually been under testing for the last few days to address this, and we expect to release it within the next couple of days. |

We are currently at version 4.0.0.772. Generally, the way we discover that this is happening is that we are using an external service that alerts us when the filter's address from outside is unavailable. When we get this alert we then log in and see that the filter has 500 connections active.
Thanks.

Whatever happened with this. It's been a month since I posted.
We still experience occasional freezes. Also, this isn't just how the interface looks, the filter actually stops working when this happens. |

saracen,
We had actually uploaded SpamFilter v4.0.0.775 around Apr 4 as scheduled, with the fix for the problem we had discovered internally. Have you tried using builds 775 or higher to see if the problem is still there? The release note that applies is: // New to VersionNumber = '4.0.1.782'; {TODO -cNew : There was a limit of 65535 emails that could be queued in the quarantine and the queue directories in case the DB or the dest. SMTP servers were offline. Stopped using the Windows API to create temp files and are now using GUIDs to eliminate this limitation} // New to VersionNumber = '4.0.1.780'; {TODO -cNew : Added the ability to specify additional failover destination SMTP servers for each domain} // New to VersionNumber = '4.0.0.775'; {TODO -cFix : Eliminated the extra "--" when logging the event "Bypassed all rules for: user@domain.com --" in the activity log} {TODO -cNew : Use Windows Messages to update the real-time activity log in GUI rather than creating a new thread to update each line in the GUI memo control. Done to improve performance in high traffic sites and to reduce number of threads used} |

When I check my filter it shows that the latest version for download is .772.
When I go to your website and click the download page the version listed there is 772 as well. |

saracen,
If you login the registered area of the website you will have access to all the latest pre-release versions of SpamFilter as mentioned in the release notes. |
