Hi,
 
I've been monitoring our SPAM Filter and have come across the Quarantine DB is not running.
 
I have tested the connection string within SPAM Filter and it connect's to the database without any problems by following the three steps in the settings/database tab, I have noticed in the Activity log which states the following message.
 
(3044) Error occurred during TAddToQuarantineThread when accessing the quarantine database: Cannot open database ''.  It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt ( 1 3a 83 84 85 86 86a 86b 86c 87 88 89 90 91)
 
Apologies as i imagine the description i've given isn't exactly the best.
 
If you require any other information let me know and i'll try and get it uploaded ASAP.

Wade,

Without knowing more about your configuration, we'll take a guess on the database platform being MySQL. If so, can you try doing a "Repair table" on the tblQuarantine and the tblMsgs tables?

If this is a wrong assumption, can you please let us know what DB platform you're using?

Thanks for the reply, it appears we are using MS Access. I have checked the UDL to make sure the connection can be made which it can without any problems.

Wade,

Have you tried to perform a "Compact and Repair" on the database by opening the database file with MS Access itself? Could you please also let us know what the file size is? Access has severe limitations on the table sizes it can use, and the database file usually cannot be larger than 2GB.

If neither of these items are an issue, could you please zip and email us your SpamFilter's activity logfile for one day, including the SpamFilter.ini file and the UDL file you are using? If the zip file is over 8MB, I'll send you a PM with the FTP credentials for our website.

Hi Logstat,
 
I took your advice in emailing however i'm yet to get a reply.
 
I have checked the MDB file which i have noticed is over 2GB, so i imagine this is the cause of it not being able to run.
 
What do i need to do in an attempt to get this backup and running? Create a blank MDB file and put it into the same DIR? or run the compact/repair utility?

Wade,

We did not see your email arrive. I searched our quarantine for an email from the domain you used to register on this forum, but could not find it there either. Are you certain the email was not larger than 8MB in size?

For the database, the safest way is to clear the existing quarantine database. To do so, open the database using Microsoft Access, open the table "tblQuarantine", select all of the records, and click on "Edit - Delete" to delete them. Then (always from within Access) click on "Tools - Database Utilities - Compact and Repair Database". This should compact the database reducing it to a few MB in size. If you receive a sharing error during this procedure, you may need to stop SpamFilter during the compact procedure.

Once this is done, you should greatly decrease the number of days for which SpamFilter will archive quarantined emails as to not reach the 2GB limit again. We recommend using either Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL for production environments when archiving emails as it's rather easy to reach that limit with Access.

Hi,

 

I’ve emailed previously regarding an issue with our Spam Filter, The problem is that our Quarantine DB is not active. From previous emails with Logstat it appears my problem is that MDB file is over 2GB therefore is stopping any information being written. I have decided that instead of using MS Access I will setup SQL express with a DSN Connection String.

 

I have tested the connection in step one which is fine, however when I come to Create / Check database tables it does the following.

 

please wait...

tblQuarantine - not found

tblMsgs - not found

tblRejectCodes - not found

tblLogins - not found

tblServers - not found

Some Database tables not found - recreating...

 

This process just sits there and doesn’t do anything more than the above, I did see a similar problem which was down to the ODBC driver which I have updated.

 

Can you shed any light on what steps I need to follow to get the above fixed?

Wade,

The non-receipt of support emails is (if the address you specified above is the one you sent the emails to) due to the incorrect domain name - we're at logsat.com, not logstat.com. If you can send the zip (or use our FTP site if larger than 8MB), we'll look at the logs to see what happened. Please also include your SpamFilter.ini file so we can look at your connection string.

As a side-note, with SQL Express you're only postponing the max size issue experienced with MS Access. SQL Express databases are limited to 4GB in size, and that can be reached quite easily especially if logging transaction in the database model (FULL recovery mode). If you're looking for a free database solution, we'd strongly recommend using MySQL. It's not as simple to use and configure as MS SQL Server, but it does do the job almost as well.
