Hey guys I am trying to test the 15 day trial of the AV Plugin. I installed the exe and my mailserver proceeded to quarantine everything and log the following:

02/09/10 11:14:09:879 -- (4024) Exception occurred during DecodeTheMessage:  Error creating tmp file name - The directory name is invalid. --
02/09/10 11:14:09:879 -- (4024) Starting queueing procedures
02/09/10 11:14:09:879 -- (4024) Exception occurred during RECEIVEMESSAGE: ( 1 2 2b 3 3a 4 5 6 7 8 9 11 12 13 15 16 17 18 18b 20b 20c 29 30 31 32 33 53 55 56 62 111)  Error creating tmp file name - The directory name is invalid. --  -- C:\spamfilterEval3.5.3.662\win32\queue\

So for 3minutes or so everything got quarantined or rejected until I uninstalled the plugin.

I wasnt sure where to exactly install the plugin. It asks for the spamfilter directory but as you can see above I originally installed without using an exe. I installed the plugin into the Win32 folder, so it created a new directory called nse under that. Maybe thats not correct?

I also just noticed in the spamfilter.ini that the server spools emails to memory and not disk, would that cause this?

I also requested my activated code during this time and it got rejected so I dont have that 15 day trial code :/

Hoping to get a code and an answer as to what happened when I tried this install.

Joe

Joe,

The plugin should be installed in the same directory where you have the SpamFilter.exe and SpamFilterSvc.exe files, however an activation code is required for it to work - you should be able to request a new one via the GUI.

From the error above however there seems to be another issue that SpamFilter encountered while trying to receive a message, reporting that the directory:
C:\spamfilterEval3.5.3.662\win32\queue\
is invalid/non-existent. This is rather unusual, so if you can please zip and email us at support @ logsat.com your SpamFilter.ini file and your SpamFilter's activity logfile for the day, we'll try to see what is happening.

Got the files. Things are rather unusual however. From the logs, we see that troubles started occurring, out-of-the-blue, right here:
02/09/10 11:11:25:676 -- (6328) Exception occurred during DecodeTheMessage:  Error creating tmp file name - The directory name is invalid. --
02/09/10 11:11:28:801 -- (5232) Exception occurred during DecodeTheMessage:  Error creating tmp file name - The directory name is invalid. --
02/09/10 11:11:31:660 -- (7440) Exception occurred during DecodeTheMessage:  Error creating tmp file name - The directory name is invalid. --
02/09/10 11:11:35:707 -- (6836) Exception occurred during DecodeTheMessage:  Error creating tmp file name - The directory name is invalid. --
02/09/10 11:11:35:707 -- (6836) Exception occurred during RECEIVEMESSAGE: ( 1 2 2b 3 3a 4 5 6 7 8 9 11 12 13 15 16 17 18 18b 19 20b 20c 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 45 46 53 55 56 62 111)  Error creating tmp file name - The directory name is invalid. --  -- C:\spamfilterEval3.5.3.662\win32\queue\

From the entries above, it seems that, while SpamFilter was running, the directories

C:\SpamFilterEval3.5.3.662\win32\queue
C:\SpamFilterEval3.5.3.662\win32\temp

were deleted. Without those directories, SpamFilter was unable to process messages. Whenever SpamFilter is *started*, it performs many self-checks. Among them is testing to ensure those directories are present, and if they are missing they will be re-created. This check however occurs at startup, but if the directories are deleted while SpamFilter is running... then problems will indeed occur. There is no mention in the logs of any entries regarding the A/V plugin, as it is not being loaded (probably due to the missing activation code).

Form the log we see that SpamFilter was restarted a few minutes later:

02/09/10 11:18:53:363 -- SpamFilter ISP v4.0.0.773 Listening on 192.168.1.66:26,

and as at that instant the missing directories were automatically re-created, everything went smoothly from then on.
