Problems with Symantec

Hello everybody,

I have been looking for a solution and explanation of why Symantec is going crazy about the files on the folder "queue".

Symantec is saying that the majority, if not all, of the files there are viruses. Symantec is staying that the virus is resolve and no action require but I will really appreciate if anybody knows what are those files in there and why will Symantec say that they are viruses.

An example of the file:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SpamFilter\queue\Indy6C157983-2DDD-4430-9666-89F3D3699E32.tmp

There are about 60 of them detected as viruses.

SpamFilter will momentarily cache to disk in that folder the raw messages being received before forwarding them to your destination SMTP server. IT also stores any emails that are waiting to be delivered to your destination SMTP server there in case the server is unavailable or is rejecting those messages.

As some emails will contain viruses, it is likely that some of those files will be detected as infected by antivirus applications. FYI  SpamFilter is antivirus-friendly, so if a filesystem-based antivirus detects a virus in the queued file and either locks or deletes that file, SpamFilter will understand that the file has become unavailable and sends an NDR back to the sender.

This is why I prefer eset to Norton.

You could also consider adding an exclusion into your AV scanning software, so it does not scan the queue folder of spamfilter. 

Then it will not freak out every time it finds a virus, assuming you have some other AV scanner on your server of course.
