    Posted: 14 November 2007 at 3:12am
I am running Enterprise version using MySQL.  When I make a change to the destination smtp server using the "destination server override" it says on the screen: "SMTP Server changes are effective immediately!".  But this does not seem to be the case.  I have changed the destination server and watched the logs and connections and it doesn't seem to change.  I have waited an hour or so to see if it reloads the config or something, but it doesn't seem to.  If I then stop and restart the Windows service, it takes effect.  Can you please explain?  It is definitely updating the db, but doesn't seem to update the active config.  Will it do it eventually?  If so... what is the interval for that and is it editable?

hookjd,

We've tried to replicate the problem, but were unable to find an issue. The changes are applied within 5 seconds, and are committed to the database as soon as you either click on the "Check" button in the "database navigator" toolbar above the list of domains in SpamFilter, or when you change the active domain in the domain list.

Within 5 seconds, the database changes will be spooled to a text file, which SpamFilter will then re-import.
The text file will be:

C:\Program Files\SpamFilter\Domains\your_domain_name\_LocalDomains.txt

This file will contain a single entry with the domain name and forwarding SMTP server information.

If you are still having issues, can you please let us know what build of SpamFilter you are using, and if the changes in the destination SMTP server information are being propagated to the above text file?

Hi Roberto.  We do seem to have a problem.  Here's what I've done:

1. Looked at the _LocalDomains.txt file to verify the settings were in there and that they matched the current db and the spamfilter interface.  All good.

2. Went into spamfilter interface and changed the destination mail server for one of my domains.  Clicked the "Check" button and clicked into another row and back again to be sure my change "stuck".

3.  Looked at the MySQL db to verify that the change was made... All good.

4.  Looked at the _LocalDomains.txt file to verify that the change was made... no go!  The file hasn't been changed.

I am running 3.5.4.718 in Enterprise mode with MySQL as the db.  Let me know if there is any further information I can provide.  I have tried this multiple times and the only way I can get my change to stick is to restart the SpamFilter service.

I had some issues like this on several of the tables.  Come to find out, we has some NULL rows in the tables, and the SF.EXE would not export the NULLs out to text.

Still trying to determine what is going on.  We migrated our install of SpamFilter to a new server a month or so ago and it has been performing beautifully on this new robust machine - actually catching quite a bit more spam than it did on our older server (which is interesting in and of itself).  The system runs very efficiently on this server, except for the problem I've outlined above.  As I've been adding domains to this install and working with the software, I've come across a similar issue which appears to be happening.  It seems that most of the time, when I add entries through the software to things like the emailto blacklist, they get entered in the database, but when I refresh the data in the spamfilter interface, they appear to have been removed.  It seems it makes the SQL queries fine, but doesn't store the changes in the current active config.  If I restart the service, it reloads from the db and all is well.  Do you have any ideas what could be causing this issue?  Do you offer any personal support on things like this?  (ie: can I give you a login offline and have you take a look at it yourself?)
