Hello,
We've been using SpamFilter for a couple of years now and we do believe is a great Product. From time to time, we have been in the need to check for messages at the logfiles located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\SpamFilter\logfiles"; in order to see if a message really arrives at the server and further processed. It would be very, very handy to have the "Subject" of the messages registered at the logfiles, in order to simplify the search for a particular item. Another real nice feature, would be to have the logfiles in a more structured form, perhaps CSV of TAB FORMATTED with Header info at the first row, and a column indicating the "type" of record/action been perfomed; so we can eventually import the data into the Database and use it for troubleshooting or Statistics. Hope my comments can be taken in consideration for future releases. Regards and Congratulations for such a great product. Enrique Carbonell |

Hi Enrique,
Adding the subject of the email being processed in the logs is a very good idea - and also so simple to implement that we have just added it our current internal alpha build. This means it will be available in the next release of SpamFilter, likely within the next 1~3 weeks. Changing the format of the logfiles is instead something we will likely not proceed with, as throughout the years many companies/administrators have created homegrown scripts that go thru the logs, and changing their format in a major way would break all those scripts. In addition, being an SMTP log that keeps track of various transactions, it would be quite complex to come up with a format that will handle all events...

Thanks a lot for your reply and for implementing my "Subject" suggestion.
Regarding the log format, don't worry I do understand, it was precisely making some custom scripts that we missed the "Subject" data availability. Regards and keep the good job rolling !!! Enrique. |

I have also done a custom script to read the log files, it is a very tough job.
There are some instances there is says the message was accepted/rejected then the condition changes later down in the log. Tracking everything by thread id is a lot of work, especially when the thread id is not unique. They have added some useful info in the past like the response from the remote server when the message gets delivered, now subject - that's a nice addition. |
