As a long time licensed user of SF from back in the pre-DB days, we are still using SF using an Access DB. With the new SFE on the horizon, will there be any tools or upgrade built into the installation routine to move existing installations to a new DB since only MySQL and MS SQL are supported? Or are we just required to do a cut and burn replacement of the existing installation?

We won't be supporting MS Access in SFE, as the database doesn't have the capabilities required by the new SFE functionality (triggers especially). Furthermore, the main extra functionality in SFE will be the ability to customize filtering for each individual domain. If there is such a need, that will mean that SpamFilter will be handling several different domains. In this scenario, we absolutely discourage the use of Access, as this platform is not suited for high traffic sites.
Please keep in mind that SFI will continue to be developed, and will always have the same new features and filter that SFE will have (with the exception of storing settings in the DB and the ability to customize filters). They share the same codebase, so this will always be the case. Furthemore, SFE can be configured to run as SFI... |
