Roberto & Co,
I have several customers who have multiple mailservers and internet connections which handle mail for the same domain (using Exchange). For redundancy reasons I would like to be able to specify multiple IPs within SFI to deliver mail to in the Local Domains eg: Current Syntax domainname.com:aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd Possible Syntax: domainname.com:aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd,aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd With this possible feature if an IP address was not contactable then another path to the mailserver to be used to deliver mail. In addition if there was the ability to load balance by having SFI alternate or randomly try any of the available IPs it would be awesome. We have had several instances recently where this sort of redundancy would have been a great benefit to our customers so anyone else who thinks this is a good idea please speak up so that we might be able to twist the arms of Roberto & Co. I'd like to see this as well. I'd also like to be able to send mail to a specific IP based on user.
We have customers that are nationwide that have multiple mail servers with specific users on each mail server and we can't offer spam filtering as a service currently. |

You're going to spoil the surprise :-)
We're *trying* to include this in the next build, and hopefully a beta will be available within the next few days. |

As promised, build 4.0.1.780 is available with this new feature. Currently the additional SMTP servers can be specified only for the individual domains (and for the "ALL DOMAINS" global setting in SpamFilter Enterprise). It is not currently possible to specify the redundant domains in the "Default destination SMTP server" field on the main "Settings - Configuration" tab.
The method to add the additional SMTP servers varies slightly depending on the version - Enterprise or "Standard" of SpamFilter being used. In both cases, the list of additoinal servers is specified using a comma-delimited list in the format server1:25,server2:26,server3:25 etc. |

Roberto, awesome work and thank you very much for listening to us. I have already updated the SFI build and made the necessary changes to my config.
I will communicate this new feature to our customers who have multiple internet connections/mailservers and I am very sure that they will be most pleased by the enhancement.
I like the addition of the word "currently" in the above quote, sounds like you have plans to enhance that setting too which would be great. With all these new developments can you see it being possible at some stage in the future whereby SFI load balances connections across the various IPs for a specific domain, so for example if a mailserver has 3 IPs available and three concurrent messages being delivered then each message is delivered to a different IP? Yet again Logsat has demonstrated why SFI is a fabulous solution, both the product itself and the company's policy of engaging it's userbase has reinforced why we are so pleased with our choise of anti-spam software. Thank you Roberto & Co. |
