Is SFI interface capable of monitoring its service? Currently when I have it running as a service and start the interface, it's not capturing any output from the service.

When running as a service, an icon should show in your task bar.  You click that to view the GUI.

If you have the service running, and if you try and start it using the spamfilter application (non-service version) you are going to have all kinds of weird issues.  Mostly around both applications trying to take control of port 25, generally you would run as service or application but not both at the same time.

I access my servers via Remote Desktop, when I do so I can not see the taskbar icon for the appliction (I don't know why that is).  I then stop the service and run the exe version then I can see the GUI.

The problem is that I absolutely need SFI running as a service. Without downtime, of course. And in this case I cannot monitor its activity. Starting GUI does not ruin my mail flow, but it only allows reconfiguration, which alone can be done through plain file editing. But I also need to debug it sometimes (quite often during the last few days).

How I do it now is I just open the log file in notepad and search. Close & reopen, search again. Considering it takes about 30 seconds to load the whole file, it's not a good option, but currently I don't have much choice.

There is no icon in system tray no matter how I connect to it (SFI running as a service). Probably because the service is running under a different account, which is limited user created specially for emails to go through. And I need to login as Administrator most of the time.

If it helps, the system is a virtual Windows 2008.

That should explain it. Services can interact with the desktop only if they are running as "SYSTEM".

Oops, we actually didn't set it up to run as that user, as we probably forgot about it. So right now it's running as a Local System and checkbox "Allow service to interact with desktop" is active/ticked. More ideas?

If you RDP into the 2008 Server, you should see on the screen a "Interactive Services dialog detection" popup box. If you click on the "Show me the message" area, that will display the new isolated "services" console which displays the services' GUIs. SpamFilter's will be there. (Please ensure that you have the "Interactive Services Detection" service enabled and started in Windows).

What we did see however is that if you close SpamFilter's service window using the "X" in the upper right corner of the window, this will prevent the "Interactive Services dialog detection" dialog from appearing ever again, and thus there appears to be no way of displaying the GUI (SpamFilter will still run in the background). To bring it back you can either stop/restart SpamFilter, or, more simply, just restart the "
Interactive Services Detection" Windows' service. As soon as this service is restarted (doing so has no impact on anything else), you will be again prompted to display SpamFilter's GUI again.

Yep, it's there, just as predicted. Service restart wasn't necessary. Big thanks!

Wish you had full support for Windows 2008 though.
