Recently I have been facing a mysterious problem with Spam Filer ISP Server. All of a sudden it hangs up and I need to hard reboot. When I check the System Logs it says 'Unexpected Shutdown' and the application log shows G:\mysql5.1\bin\mysqld-nt : Table :\spamdb\tblmsgs's is marked as crashed and should be repaired

This has happened almost 6-7 times in last 2 days. My total database size is not more than 1.5 Gb.  My server hardware is Dual processors Xeon 2.4 with 2 gb ram. Can someone suggest anything on this.
Generally the processor and memory load is not more than 50%

prsahant31,

We already replied via email on the 9th, but in case other users have similar issues, here is the reply:

The error you see "G:\mysql5.1\bin\mysqld-nt : Table :\spamdb\tblmsgs's is marked
as crashed and should be repaired" occurs as one of the MySQL tables (tblMsgs) is corrupted. This likely occurred when the server was hard rebooted, as database files are usually open files with ongoing transactions, and are very sensitive to unexpected restarts.
To repair the database, you can try to use MySQL’s “repair table” functionality, but to do that you may need to stop SpamFilter first as MySQL may require single user access to the database. If that’s the case, and the database is large (+1GB), you could try to stop SpamFilter, start the repair procedure, and while that goes on restart SpamFilter, as SpamFilter should be able to work even without a database present.

Please do note that while the SpamFilter application may crash, this would not bring down an entire server. There are usually other factors involved, either hardware or software (often caused by kernel drivers) that can cause hard crashes and/or blue screens. Depending on your OS settings, there may be debug logs being created by Windows for you to examine and possibly locate the root cause of the crashes.
