Is there any way to resend messages that become queued if the local mail server is unavailable for a period of time, without restarting the SPAMfilter service?

Yes, if the destination server is unavailable, emails are saved to the queue directory. Redelivery of items in the queue is attempted automatically every 60 minutes, and, as you noticed, also every time SpamFilter is started. We've just updated the documentation and the website to include this information. Roberto Franceschetti |

Thanks. I should note, however, that one two different machines that I checked, the queue had files that were several days old, and restarting the server completely cleared them out. This is with version 1.1.0.80
