Hi All, I have noticed that spamfilter is bypassing all rules when the an email is addressed to MAILER-DAEMON@<houst name>. My concern is that there is a growing number of spam emails comming for this address and I am unable to block it with the filters. Any suggestions? Thanks |

Steve, SpamFilter should not bypass any rules unless configured to do so. The only exception is if the email originates from 127.0.0.1 (localhost), in which case since the address is local and trusted, the mail is allowed thru (this can be configured in the ini file to not take effect). If you post or email at support@logsat.com the section of your SpamFilter activity logfile that shows the incoming email, from connection to disconnect, we'll take a look as to what is causing this to happen. If you email us, please also include a copy of your local whitelist/blacklist files, along with your keyword files and SpamFilter.ini file. Roberto F. |

I haven't yet found that something was getting through the filters unless I had somehow configured it to allow it in... with the number of whitelist/blacklist combinations something one ends up over-riding another. And remember, whitelists are processed before blacklists. An ALLOW overrides a DENY. http://www.logsat.com/spamfilter/forums/showmessage.asp?messageID=2720 |

Hi Steve,
Following is the section of your SpamFilter log that shows the email bypassing all rules:
05/03/04 02:38:35:765 -- (492) Connection from: xxx.yyy.224.6 - Originating country : Canada 05/03/04 02:38:35:781 -- (492) Resolving xxx.yyy.224.6 - gateway2.zzzz.zzz 05/03/04 02:38:35:781 -- (492) Bypassed all rules for: MAILER-DAEMON@mail.zzzz.zzz from 05/03/04 02:38:35:937 -- (492) EMail from to MAILER-DAEMON@mail.zzzz.zzz was queued. Size: 1 KB You have configured the following entries in your "Excluded Domains / IPs" settings:
xxx.yyy.224.*
10.1.*.* 10.3.*.* 10.4.*.* SpamFilter is thus behaving as expected, bypassing all rules for any IP in the xxx.yyy.224.0-255 range of addresses you chose to whitelist.
Regards,
Roberto F.
