Hello -

Just noticed that my stats as displayed by 1.2.0.162 don't add up correctly.

Emails Attempts: 21633

Emails blocked: 21213

Emails forwarded: 7158

Seems odd to me.

Jack,

It may be confusing, and we'll try to make this clearer in the docs. Email attempts are the number of  RCPT TO commands received. Email blocked are the number of emails that are rejected. The "Attempts" are higher usually because spammers will "probe" email systems to see if emails in the RCPT TO command are accepted or not, so they try various combinations of them.

OK - it *IS* a monday, but I don't understand the math here.  I was thinking the formula is "attempts - blocked = forwarded"  What is it actually?

I would like to have a number that I can show customers or potential customers that says "We had XX amount of mail come in and of that, YY was rejected as spam."

There is really no math here that applies. A remote server can send 99 RCPT TO commands that are rejected, thus causing 99 "attempts". on the 100th he guesses a valid email address, but then his email contains a keyword which causes the email to be rejected. This causes the "Blocked" counter to go to 1.

Now you're at

100 attempts
1 blocked
0 forwarded

Another server connects. He tries a RCPT TO that gets rejected. "Attempts" is now 101. He tries another RCPT TO which is valid. "Attempts" is 102. His email is accepted and forwarded.

Now you're at

102 attempts
1 blocked
1 forwarded

It all depends on what the remote servers do...

OK.  Got it.

Please consider adding a way to show some user friendly stats to your 1.3 beta.

Something like in my previous post would be great - xx messages in and yy blocked as spam.
