Hello, Ocasionally, I am getting external email users delivery attempts to our Internal MS EXCH Server 5.5 SMTP (which is filtered through Spamfilter ISP) who recieve a "server <name> responded with Syntax Error" email back. Curiously, I do not get an NDR from our exchange server. Does anybody have knowledge of EXCH 5.5 - SpamFilter ISP idiocyncrasies and what could cause this? mucho TIA, drud |

i disabled the rdns ehlo lookup in the registry, which is exploitable anyway.. and this and almost all problems where gone... (exchange 5.5 sp4)
note : i disabled it at the exchange server. my config : exchange 5.5 smtp socket 26 through services file logsat on tcp 25, outbound exchange remains at tcp 25. |

If, using the error the external users receive, you can trace back the original email's date/time and from/to, you should be able to cross-reference the SpamFilter activity logs to try seing what has happened. SpamFilter logs all errors reported by the destination server (Exchange in your case). If you'd like to post the relevant section of the log we can try to help. Roberto F. |

please note also that it is an exchange server and not a real smtp server,
exchange 5.5 is from a past time that ms$ thought they did not have to obey the internet rfc... so errormessages between exchange 5.5 and logsat are hard to track, because of the b*llsh*t in the exchange smtp error logs.
