Hi,

We're using Spam Filter ISP with a SQL database and seem to have an issue with emails leaving it.

Normal email which isn't spam is fine but if any of the below occurs we are having serious issues:

1. New user registers their email address, an email is never received

2. Email notification that a user has spam not being received

3. User wants to know their password and requests it via our recover password link but the email is never received

4. User accepts an email from the Spam Filter and the email isn't received.

One thing I have noticed is that the SQL server process is using a lot of memory and sometimes restarting the server can can allow things to be OK again for a little while.

Please can someone help with this issue as it is causing us a big problem.

Cheers,

Steve

Steve,

Can you please ensure you downloaded and installed the licensed version of SpamFilter, and not the free one? You can verify the license type by looking at the bottom left corner of SpamFilter's GUI window. If licensed, it should have the word "REGISTERED" next to the version number. This is because the free version of SpamFilter is limited by not being able to force-deliver quarantined emails.

If you are using the registered version of SpamFilter, then for these issues:

could you please zip and email us at support at logsat dot com your SpamFilter's activity logfile for a day this happened? Please also include the email address in question and the approximate time the operation occurred so we may locate the relevant entries in the log. If the zip is over 8MB in size I'll PM you the details for our FTP server.

SpamFilter does not provide this functionality out-of-the-box, so you probably have some customized jobs to do this. For this the issue is probably related to the problem in your questions 1 & 3 from above.

For this:

I'm not 100% sure if you mean that a user forces the delivery of an email from their quarantine but it wasn't delivered. If this is correct however, again the same issue as above will likely affect this too.

that is a SQL Server question, but please do note that Microsoft SQL Server will usually take up all the RAM it can and is available on the server. Microsoft does this by design to optimize performance and does not absolutely indicate an issue with SQL Server. SQL will release memory by itself if it is needed by other applications.

Hi Roberto,

Thank you for getting back to me, it's appreciated.

I have made some changes which have aided the issues above. The problem was infrastructure related so apologies for getting you involved.

I'll see how things go going forward and will keep you informed.

Cheers,
Steve
