Our log get a message every minute that a connection from ourselves (192.168.x.x) is made. This fills up the log making it awkward to read the "real" connections. Is there a way that we can NOT log connections from our own IP.

Not that I know of. But you should find out what is trying to connect from your side. I have never had this happen with my setup and I have used four differant versions.

Like some other users here, I use network monitoring software that connects to all resources at set intervals, including the server that SpamFilter runs on. This tends to skew the statistics pie graph.

When I was using WhatsUp I had the same problem on my Sendmail server until I turned port 25 in WhatsUp. I don't know if your monitoring software works the same way, but it might be possible to have it not connect on that port. Just a thought. g |

Georege I am also using WhatsUp. If you use a different port, how would you be confirming SMTP is up on that server? |

Well that is the problem with how WhatsUp checks the port. It makes a connection which show up in the log. I don't monitor port 25. When I was using WhatsUp I would just have it ping the server to make sure the server was there. As for port 25 and 110, if I was unable to send or receive then I would check the system for a service crash but in the last 5 years I have never had a problem with the service crashing. Lucky I guess. Sendmail is pretty stable as far as that is concerned. g |
